People have a variety of reasons for choosing Environmentally Friendly foods and those that don’t contain any animal-based substances. Some consumers are concerned about the negative effects of factory farms on the environment and look for food producers that avoid buying ingredients sourced at those facilities. These individuals may be worried about climate change or about air and water pollution. Others may be mainly concerned about the animals and feel disturbed about how poorly those creatures are treated. For some consumers, choosing environmentally responsible food products is one way of connecting with their spiritual nature. It may even be encouraged by their religion or particular spiritual group.
Followers of Eastern religious and spiritual practices are more commonly dedicated to avoiding animal-based substances than those of the Hebrew traditions. People who identify as Christian, Muslim or Jewish are mostly free to eat meat, dairy and eggs, although some factions of these broader groups restrict certain foods. The Christian denomination known as Seventh-Day Adventist, for instance, encourages its members to eat a vegetarian diet. These consumers also want to avoid foods sourced at facilities that leave a big negative footprint on the greater environment through land and water pollution, and emission of greenhouse gases. Choosing products that don’t contribute to those food suppliers is a gentler path. Fortunately, convenience foods that don’t include meat, eggs or dairy are increasingly available as more people look for those items. They also are becoming more affordable as the producers figure out ways to keep the costs down.
